Roslindale youth among contest’s twelve winners

Derek Bautkovich of Roslindale holds his winning entry and $50 prize.

CANTON, Mass. (December 24, 2019) – Bank of Canton recently announced the twelve winners of its 2019 Mitten Craft Contest, in which young artists between the ages of three and fourteen designed mittens using a variety of non-perishable materials. The bank received 52 total entries from around the Greater Boston area.

Four-year-old Derek Bautkovich of Roslindale was among the twelve prizewinners, receiving a $50 runner-up prize in the 3-7 age bracket. In all, the bank awarded two $200 grand prizes, two $100 Facebook prizes (determined exclusively by the number of Likes their entries received on Facebook), and eight $50 runner-up prizes. Other winners hailed from Canton, Randolph, Stoughton, Weymouth, Braintree, Hanson and Pembroke.

Submissions were made from fabric, clay, construction paper, sponges, paint, feathers, beads and magic marker. All entries can be viewed on the bank’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/thebankofcanton/.

The craft contest was part of Bank of Canton’s holiday promotion, which also included a free public showing of The Grinch at the bank’s 250-seat auditorium in Canton, and a mitten tree collection drive to gather winter clothing accessories to benefit local charities.
