Bank of Canton Promotes Charles Gaffney to SVP, Operations & Technology

Longtime I.T. department head assumes senior leadership role

Charles Gaffney, SVP of Operations & Technology at Bank of Canton

CANTON, Mass. (March 14, 2024) – Bank of Canton recently promoted Charles Gaffney, longtime head of the bank’s information technology department, to the position of senior vice president of operations & technology. In his expanded role overseeing bank operations, security, facilities and I.T., Gaffney succeeds senior vice president Peter Shea, who will soon retire after a 35-year career with the bank.

“I’m honored to have this opportunity,” said Gaffney. “Technology and service delivery are constantly evolving in the banking industry, and the customer experience is greatly impacted by how we navigate those changes. Evaluating, implementing, and maintaining new banking and lending services – while striking the proper balance between convenience and security – is crucial to our continued success.

“I’m excited to lead a talented team that’s committed to supporting, educating and protecting our customers, and delivering a top-notch banking experience every day.”

Gaffney was the bank’s vice president of information technology for nearly 21 years prior to his promotion. Before joining Bank of Canton in 2003, he served as assistant vice president/operations officer at Peoples Federal Savings Bank. In his new role on the bank’s executive team, he reports directly to the bank’s president and CEO, Stephen P. Costello.

“Charlie’s been a valuable contributor to Bank of Canton for over 20 years,” said Costello. “Working closely with Peter Shea during that time, he gained exposure to our operations function, and broadened his banking and leadership skills by pursuing career development opportunities. We’re fortunate to have someone with his institutional knowledge and expertise assume responsibility for our operations and I.T. departments, and I look forward to his continued growth and success.”

Gaffney graduated from Providence College with a Bachelor of Science degree in economics, and received a Stonier diploma and Wharton leadership certificate from the ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking. He lives with his wife and three children in Scituate, where he serves on the board of the Scituate Beach Association.
