John Hellmuth Joins Bank of Canton as Regional Lending Manager

Mortgage loan originator with strong compliance background joins bank’s residential lending team

Regional Lending Manager John Hellmuth

CANTON, Mass. (March 20, 2026) – Bank of Canton recently hired mortgage loan originator John Hellmuth (NMLS #2005248) as a regional lending manager serving Milton and the nearby Neponset Valley area. In addition to his focus on client service, Hellmuth brings over twenty years’ experience in risk management and compliance to the role.

“An important part of providing great service is properly setting clients’ expectations at the outset,” said Hellmuth, “and I think my background in corporate compliance helps put borrowers at ease. I help clients understand the process, the timing of the different milestones, and that they are going to be taken care of by someone who’s very familiar with the operational aspects of mortgage finance.”

Hellmuth joins Bank of Canton from a local mortgage company where he served as a loan officer. Prior to that, he held leadership positions in the financial services industry for over twenty years, with responsibility over risk management, audit and compliance functions. In his new role, he will work out of the bank’s corporate headquarters building in Canton and report to J. Scott Gannon (NMLS #80565), senior vice president of residential and consumer lending.

“John is a terrific addition to our mortgage team,” said Gannon. “For a loan originator, he has a diverse background that lends itself very well to our business here, where borrower education is a fundamental part of our success. We look forward to his contributions.”

Hellmuth lives in Milton with his wife and three children. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, skiing, training his German shepherd, and volunteering for Massachusetts Fallen Heroes.
