BROOKLINE, Mass. (January 4, 2016) – Bank of Canton’s Brookline branch collected over 200 items for Cradles to Crayons’ Gear Up for Winter campaign, whose mission is to distribute warm winter essentials to families in need.

“This year’s turnout was great,” said Branch Manager Elaine Joseph. “Our tree was decorated with new hats, mittens, scarves, and socks – 211 items in all – to help local families keep warm this winter. This is our Mitten Tree’s eighth year, and it might have been our biggest. It’s wonderful to see so many of our friends and neighbors pitching in to help those in need.”

Joseph said that donations came from customers, Brookline Rotarians, fellow BNI members and friends, local Health and Police Departments, and families from the neighboring Sunshine Academy preschool “who love to decorate our famous tree with items they donate.”

Bank of Canton also collected over $750 worth of gift cards and approximately 30 toys as part of Brookline Keeps Smiling, an annual toy drive to benefit the children and families of the Brookline Community Mental Health Center (BCMHC). Joseph, a board member of BCMHC, helped organize the Brookline Keeps Smiling program in 2009.
