CANTON, Mass. (January 11, 2018) – Bank of Canton collected 429 winter accessories for local charities last month, as part of its annual holiday Mitten Tree collection drive.

Customers of the bank’s Canton offices donated handmade and newly purchased hats, mittens, socks and scarves to benefit Cradles to Crayons, which provides children living in homeless or low-income situations with the essential items they need to thrive.

Among the larger donors were the knitting clubs of the Canton Council on Aging and the Fuller Village assisted living residence in Milton. The knitting clubs donated several bags and boxes of knitted items, and the bank provided the clubs with free yarn.

“We’re grateful to our generous customers and staff who did an excellent job covering our Mitten Trees with donations,” said Stephen P. Costello, president and CEO of Bank of Canton. “We had tremendous participation in all of our communities this year, and I’m pleased to see this holiday tradition grow and benefit even more of our neighbors in need.”

The Mitten Tree collection drive was part of Bank of Canton’s holiday promotion, which also included a free public showing of the animated movie Arthur Christmas at the bank’s 250-seat auditorium in Canton, as well as a “crazy holiday sweater” drawing contest that awarded $1,000 to young artists.
