Bank of Canton Receives Grant and Constructs Wind Turbine Test Tower.
April 2008- Bank of Canton will test a new, sustainable energy source, thanks to a $40,000 grant from the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MTC), by constructing a temporary meteorological tower at the Bank's headquarters on Turnpike Street in Canton. .
The grant has enabled Bank of Canton to construct the temporary tower that will now operate for a one-year period. The construction of the tower is part of an effort by Bank of Canton to lower the amount of electricity used at its corporate headquarters.
"Bank of Canton is making a special effort to become environmentally conscious and to try to become sustainable for the future of our children's future," said James D. Egan, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Bank of Canton. "We are eager to see if the results of the temporary wind tower indicate that a permanent structure is indeed feasible."
The MTC work with a number of organizations across the State who are looking to use renewable energy to reduce their energy consumption, save money, and help the environment. "We are excited to work with forward-thinking organizations, like the Bank of Canton, who are taking important steps towards managing their environmental footprint," said Tyler Leeds, a Project Manager with the MTC.
The temporary wind measurement tower, which was assembled and raised on April 15, will record data every 15 minutes from heights of 30, 40 and 50 meters from the ground. This data is then compiled into a database which the Bank will review to determine whether a permanent wind turbine will be constructed.
