March 11, 2011 – Stephen P. Costello, President and CEO of Bank of Canton, is pleased to announce the Bank’s recent donation of $500 to the Friends of Borderland. This contribution will help support the “Sounds of Music” concert by the Barbershop Quartet on Saturday, September 17, 2011. The event is part of the Centennial Celebration of the Ames Mansion located at Borderland State Park in North Easton, MA. The concert is expected to draw over 1,000 people from surrounding towns including Canton, Easton, Foxboro, Mansfield, Sharon, and Stoughton.

“On September 17, 2011, the Friends of Borderland will be coordinating the 100th Anniversary Celebration of the Mansion located at Borderland State Park. The theme for the celebration is ‘Bringing Families and Communities Together’ and a wide-range of activities for all age groups is planned throughout the day,” said David I. Clifton, Co-Chair, Centennial Celebration of the Mansion. “We thank Bank of Canton for their generosity and will salute the Mansion and its history and at the same time enjoy the park, one of our greatest Natural Resources in the area.”

“For the past 40 years, folks all around the Commonwealth have been enjoying all the activities and amenities that Borderland State Park has to offer,” said Mr. Costello. “Friends of Borderland has played a significant role in preserving the illustrious history of this national landmark for the community. Bank of Canton is proud to take part in the Centennial Celebration of the Ames Mansion and we look forward to this summer’s concert and festivities.”

Incorporated in 1972, Friends of Borderland, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that assists the Mass. Department of Conservation and Recreation in preserving and interpreting the natural and cultural resources of Borderland State Park in North Easton.

Borderland is one of the most historically significant tracts of publicly owned land in the Commonwealth. Oakes and Blanche Ames began building a three-story, 22,212-square foot stone mansion on the property in 1910. The home, completed in 1912, still stands today, and its 20 large rooms are furnished much as they were when the couple lived there. In 1971, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts acquired the estate and opened it as a state park.
